Christmas Concert

This was the first school Christmas Concert that my kids have been in. Ontario only had a winter concert for the older grades, and last year Pilot Rock didn't have any concerts. This year a lady in our ward was asked if she would be in charge of the Elementary school Christmas Concert K-6 grades. It was wonderful. Each class got to perform 2 songs, one was a Santa Christmas song, and the other was a traditional CHRISTmas song. It was fun to have both of them. The kids had a lot of fun too. These pictures are terrible, but that's what I get for getting there late. There was a great turn out. All the seats were filled, and the walls were lined with people standing, which is where I was. But some pictures are better than none, so here they are:

Calista's kindergarten class did Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer and There Was a Chubby Snowman. She is in the front row the fourth from the right in the black and pink dress

Jacque's class did Oh Come, All Ye Faithful and Deck the Halls. They also joined the First Graders for All I want for Christmas is my Two Front Teeth. She's on the far right in the front row.

Samuel's class sang Away in a Manger, Up on the Housetops and Jingle Bells. He's the tall handsome boy in the back row!

At the end all the classes came out to sing We Wish you a Merry Christmas. It was so much fun!

What does the candy cane represent?

I've heard lots of people try to explain how the candy cane relates to Christmas, but none have made as much sense as Jacque's. Today was their last day of school, and they were given candy canes at school. I'm pretty sure she came up with these reasons on her own. As we were driving home, and she was sucking on her candy cane, she told me all about why we celebrate Christmas with candy canes:

1. If you turn it upside down, it makes a J for Jesus.

2. When you suck on it, the red stripes come off and it makes it all white, like Jesus is all clean.

3. The red stripes can represent sin. When you stir you hot chocolate, it "washes" off the red stripes and leaves a white candy cane, kind of like baptism washes off sin.

4. The candy cane needs to have a brown stripe for Jesus' hair. The stripes are red on top of white like the red thing (robe) that he wears on top of his white thing (gown).

What do you see when you look at this picture?

I'll give you a clue: The bottom vertical colors are the sidewalk. So what is above the sidewalk you ask. Ellen says the white page is the street, and the purplish circle is the stopsign. You drive up to it, stop, and then the three circles off to the left show the directions you can go from the stopsign!!

Who took that?

I gave my camera to Ellen because she wanted to know how to take a picture. I told her how to take the first picture, but then I turned my head and didn't think about it again. When I finally noticed that someone still had my camera, it was in Calista's hands. I'm not sure who all got a turn with the camera, but here is the product of their unsupervised photo shoot.

Fun times with a box!

It was fun the see how much fun the kids could have with this box. They took turns pushing each other around the kitchen for a while. Then they made a bed out of it and took turns getting in and out. Samuel and Ellen had fun with the box too, but they'd quit by the time I grabbed the camera.

After seeing how much fun the girls were having with this box today, Samuel comes up and whispers to me that he wants to wrap up a bunch of empty boxes for the girls for Christmas!!

Calista also wanted me to take a picture of her turkey that she made at school. It's pretty cute!

The other day I decided to go through my pictures I had stored on my computer and organize them. I noticed I had a bunch of pictures of things I had sewed so I made a file of them.
